Heard on The Street: Quantitative Questions from Wall Street Job Interviews

Don't laugh. Dr. Crack already sold 30,000 copies of this book. You might want to take a look or send this post to your buddies via email.

Good way to get an edge if you need it.
I used to wonder why interviewers at top
firms supplied me with their interview questions to put in a book to sell to their job candidates.
Now I understand that they do not mind if the questions are public knowledge because job candidates
who make a serious investment of time in revising the questions deserve to be hired!
The latest edition also includes about 125 non-quant actual interview questions plus
a section on interview technique
As of January 2008, roughly 30,000 copies have been sold with
about 10,000 going to people at investment banks, trading firms, and money
management firms.

Innovative Businesses Using Google

Share/Save/Bookmark
This a a great example of how to use Google to improve product offerings. Maybe this will give you the next great idea. Check out the video site for future reference.
We're always amazed by the innovative ways businesses use Google Maps to improve their product offering, whether it's creating heat maps to help users visualize home price trends or enabling them to search for that all-important coffee shop near their hotel. News sites are no exception; for example, KPBS and the Los Angeles Times used Google Maps back in October to report real-time on the spread of the San Diego wildfires.
I'm happy to announce that we've launched a video site to spotlight these organizations and their great work with Google Maps.

Reality Check: Consumers Unlikely to Pay Much More for Green

Share/Save/Bookmark
But at least they have their customers down cold: 31% said none of their ratepayers would pay a dime to fight climate change
clipped from blogs.wsj.com

People really don’t want to pay much more each month to stop global warming, regardless of how many movies Al Gore makes. One-third of Deloitte respondents said they’d be prepared to pay “zero” extra to fight global warming. Slightly more, 36%, said they’d cough up 5% more if it meant their juice was emissions-free—5% being what you leave a really lousy waiter. About a quarter of the 1,000 adults Deloitte interviewed said they’d be willing to add 10% or more to their power bill for clean energy. Here’s the bad news: The main climate-change proposal in Congress could add between 11% and 64% to those bills to reduce emissions.

Five Easy Ways to Green Your Next Remodel

Most major brands of paint and home improvement stores now sell paint with low no volatile organic compounds (gaseous pollutants). It costs a few more dollars, but you don’t get headaches
Any time a wall is down, add layers. It’ll cut back energy bills and make room temperature more comfortable year-round. Here are four types of insulation considered particularly “green.”
Appliances: When you replace, look for the Energy Star label.

Cabinets:
In addition to smaller eco-lines like Neil Kelly and Breathe Easy there are at least 107 mainstream kitchen cabinet makers who incorporate a good number of health and eco features. Here’s a list.

Solarfun Power Short Interest Balloons, Squeeze In Play

It was a wild day on Wall Street as Solar stocks soared along with the price of crude oil.
clipped from www.antandsons.com
On the technical breakout scene this afternoon was Solarfun Power Holdings Co. (SOLF) which rose $1.25, or 8.37%, to $16.19 on volume of 9.1 million shares, more than double the three month average daily volume of 4.37 million shares.
Today’s move coincides with an across the board “green day” in solar power stocks led by First Solar, which rose 6.72% to $303.98
The bullish move could be attributed to a round of intense short covering
Since the end of January there were about 11.3 million shares short, but that has moved up to 15.2 million as of the last reported settlement date of April 30
The shares represent a substantial portion of the 48.3 million shares outstanding and the publicly traded float of 43.5 million shares
It’s an understatement to say that the short supply of shares has added to the volatility of this solar name and fueled the momentum trade.

Vitamin B-12: Can it improve memory in Alzheimer's?

Mayo Clinic neuropsychologist Glenn Smith, Ph.D., and colleagues answer select questions from readers.
clipped from www.mayoclinic.com
Is it true that vitamin B-12 supplements can improve memory? What about in people with Alzheimer's disease?

Vitamin B-12 may improve memory in people with a proven vitamin B-12 deficiency. Poor memory may be a sign of Vitamin B-12 deficiency. In such cases, supplementing with vitamin B-12 may improve memory. However, there's no evidence that vitamin B-12 enhances memory in people with normal memory.

At this time, there's no evidence that supplementing with vitamin B-12 offers any benefit to people with Alzheimer's disease. However, some studies suggest that people with Alzheimer's disease have reduced blood levels of vitamin B-12 — and that people with reduced blood levels of vitamin B-12 are at increased risk of Alzheimer's. As a result, several large studies are under way to evaluate the potential benefit of vitamin B-12 supplementation in people with Alzheimer's.

A Wisconsin brewery is tapping into a subculture "it didn't know existed" to promote its Nude Beach Summer Wheat beer, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Joe Martino, Stevens Point Brewery operating partner, tells the newspaper his company came up with the name during a brainstorming session.

The name drew immediate inquiries from the American Association for Nude Recreation.

Now Martino will provide 25 cases of Nude Beach -- described as a wheat beer with a "full-bodied, yet smooth and creamy" taste -- for the group's convention in Michigan in return for some ads in the group's member publications.

Martino is excited about the exposure but says he won't attend: "I might have attended 20 years ago, when my body was in better shape."
