While Bernanke said there’s much to praise about American health care, he also said we could get more for our money. “The evidence … suggests that the cost of health care in the United States is greater than necessary to allow us to achieve the levels of health and longevity we now enjoy,” he said. “Although some patients do not receive the care they need, others receive more (and more expensive) care than necessary.” He was speaking at a Senate committee hearing on health reform; the text of his speech is online here. |
